A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

Imposter is a same-room social-deduction game. Everyone sits together, each on their own phone. One Key is dealt. Normies see the Reveal. Imposters only see a vague Clue and try to name the Answer. Nobody is told who is who. Including other Imposters.

Talk out loud. Phones are for private info, Tells, Guesses, and Votes. A laptop on the Wi‑Fi is a silent relay; nobody plays on it. You need at least 3 players.

Install instructions

Slightly technical setup:

  • Install Node.js.
  • Unzip the download.
  • On the host laptop, double-click server/start.bat (Windows) or server/start.command (Mac). Leave that window open.
  • On the laptop, note its LAN IP (ipconfig on Windows, System Settings → Network on Mac). Example: 192.168.1.23.
  • Everyone joins the same Wi‑Fi or phone hotspot as the laptop.
  • On each phone, open http://<laptop-ip>:8080 — not localhost, not 127.0.0.1 (those only work on the laptop).
  • Type a name and Join. First in is Host. Host picks a Set and starts when 3+ people are in the Lobby.
